What I'd Wear Wednesday: Legs

What I'd wear today if I could: a miniskirt. I can't remember the last time I saw my thighs. And sadly, it's probably a good thing I don't show them off.

See, I haven't been able to bring myself to wear skirts much shorter than knee length since before Fly was born. It could be an age thing -- as in maybe I'm too old to wear this. It could be a wardrobe thing -- as in maybe the colored daisies on this mini aren't in style so much anymore. It could be a leg thing -- as in look at these scars and little blue and red blood vessels!

I just like the way a mini lets my legs feel free. It's sleeker than a pair of shorts. And for people like myself who are (at least slightly) vertically challenged, a mini doesn't overwhelm your frame. Once you learn how to sit down or bend without embarrassing yourself, minis are great.

It also doesn't help that the mini-with-opaque-tights option isn't really seen in my part of the country.

So maybe this isn't so much what I'd wear today as it is what I wish my body was like. Maybe I don't need new clothes -- maybe what I need is a new body!

So do you love or hate miniskirts? And what age do you think women should stop wearing them?

I love that skirt!
But, umm, yeah, I don't wear miniskirts either. A. I don't like my thighs and tend to think most people don't like them either and B. I'm up down, up down all day long and chasing kids and picking things up and frankly that sort of life with a miniskirt on, well, doesn't it just sound like an "you only think it's funny because it didn't happen to you out in public" story waiting to happen?

In the hot summer months I still wear a jean mini ... it is the same length as most of my shorts so I justify it that way ... I am not sure if I am too old for it but my husband loves it :)

I don't wear them anymore. I think the last time I did I was 29 years old. I think if I had a hot body...I would once in a while.

Still wear them. I'm short so it's not like I have much extra leg hanging out when I have them on.

It IS getting harder to bend appropriately, though. Maybe that's the age determining factor - when you can no longer pick yourself up from the floor gracefully without exposing yourself!

There are LOTS of clothes I would wear if only I had the "perfect" body. I don't really care for miniskirst anyway (I'm more of a jeans person), but my issue has more to do with how much I hate my legs than how short a skirt may be. And that's why I'm rarely seen in a bathing suit, too . . .

I lovvvve skirts! I bought a pretty little tiered white skirt at the beginning of the summer and it's been one of my staple pieces of gear :] I hate shorts -- they always ride up and hug and pinch uncomfortably.

I'm not so much on the mini skirts these days, for much the same reasons as you. Plus, I'm down on the ground with my daughter so much that it's not a very practical wardrobe choice. I WOULD like to have that figure, though. *Sigh*

If I wore a mini-skirt I'd have to shave. No thank you. Plus I don't like my white legs sticking out like that. Or big hips.

I wish I could live life in sweats, a t-shirt and some flip-flops ... but thank God you keeping me pushing through the corporate world semi-put-together.

Very cute skirt, but yeah, I feel too old to wear them too. My legs are actually one of my halfway decent features (when they're not twice as big as they normally are, like they are right now), but I still would feel silly wearing one.

I don't know...short and tight isn't in at any age in my opinion. So I think you're right...it's got to go w/the body. Unfortunately, not mine.

I wish I had the guts...

At what age should women stop wearing them?
When they stop knowing how to bend over in them*!*

I think mini's are terribly cute... micro mini's not so much (which this one isn't.) If I had the legs, I'd definitely wear one.

Thank you for posting this! I love to say it: I HATE mini-skirts. Always have, even when they were in style.

I think it's more about my individual body proportions, having a shorter than average distance between hip and knee. I feel so exposed!

And I don't know that it always has to do with age, but it does have to do with attitude. For example, we know a family with mother and daughters close to our ages who all wear minis. The mother does it innocently and doesn't look bad, my daughters think she just looks out of style. But her daughters look like preppy pin-ups and they are not doing it innocently.

I stop short of saying no minis are ever appropriate on anyone, but I'd rather they weren't so well-liked by everyone else. ;)
