No longer a fraction

I would like to apologize to everyone who came here looking for a picture of an icing-smeared one-year-old eating his first birthday cake. Despite my best efforts, this is the best I could do:

Fly wasn't interested in the cupcakes I made. From scratch. Till 1 a.m. Which everyone else raved about. Lovingly baked in the cutest cupcake liners I ordered online.

Fly was, however, into the toys.

(A little advice for anyone whose child has yet to have a birthday: don't bother writing "please, no gifts" on the party invitations. Even though your child has so many toys that, placed end to end, they would almost make it along the entire eastern U.S. coastline, birthday partygoers feel compelled to bring the babe something. As long as children have birthday parties, consumerism will be alive and well.)

At least he was willing to share them with friend Lancelot.

Now there is actually a whole number associated with my child.

And I hope many, many more.

What a little cutie!!! I just want to give him a big hug. Kid birthdays are always filled with lots of presents. I am getting ready to clear some space for Harry's second birthday spoils.

He looks like he had fun! The birthday cake icing can be a messy thing. Your clean up was easier. :)

Birthday wishes to the Flyboy :-) What an adorable boy he is.

Don't worry about the cupcakes. If I were you, I'd be more worried if he likes it, you don't want to encourage sweet tooth in babies

Awww.. I'm so glad Fly had a great birthday, and these pictures are precious.

And I hear ya about the toys! I ended up stashing half of Isabella's gifts away to give her at Christmas.

We wrote "No toys or shoes, please!" on our daughter's 1st birthday party invitation. And we ended up with mountains of clothes and books! Hooray!

So cute.

And yes, I've made the made the same mistakes. Wrote no gifts on an invitation everyone ignored. Ad made cupcakes from scratch the kid ignored.

My oldest (now 10) would have nothing to do with the messy cakiness. She put her hands up, as if she was being arrested in the wild west, and insisted on a "svoon."

Fly Baby is ADORABLE!

Aw very cute.

My son was horrified by the frosting on his cake...

The things we Moms do...apparently just for ourselves!

My daughter wanted nothing to do with her first cake.

Now, it's the first thing she inquires about at birthday parties.

That's good he was at least into the toys. My one year old was just into the boxes.

I don't know where the "messy cake photo" tradition came from, but its appeal totally passed me by. I guess I've just seen so many messy faces, that it isn't in the least bit "cute" to me.

First birthdays are more for the parents than for the kids--because getting through that first year is a major accomplishment. So congratulations to you!

Beautiful pictures!

I have been trying to bring my kids favourite books as gifts, since my kids have so much too. Yet are there too many books?

Funny - Esme wasn't into eating her cake at all, though she was all over the decorations and messing them up while I was working on it!
